Title: Teonge - Nest ▪ Dates: 2026. 10. 07 – 10. 24 ▪ Artist: PARK, Ji Eun ▪ Exhibition Location: Gallery Jinsun 2F, 59 Samcheong-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul ▷ About the Exhibition Gall ery Jinsun to Host Solo Exhibition by Ottchil (Lacquer) Artist PARK, Ji Eun “Teonge - Nest” • The Ottchil artist PARK, Ji Eun is mounting a new solo exhibition entitled “Teonge - Nest,” which explores how people in the modern era find psychological sanctuary • Investigates the joys and sorrows of modern life through concepts of home, nests, shelters, and sanctuaries • Showcases an expanded world view of the “Oriental landscape,” one which has evolved from the traditional Korean tiled-roof (Giwa) houses • Paintings utilize natural materials such as Ottchil (lacquer) and eggshells PARK, Ji Eun’ s solo exhibition “Teonge - Nest,” in which the artist’s work embodies a broadly resonant visual language based on Ottchil (lacquer) and traditional materials, will be held at Gallery Jinsun in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, from October 7 to October 24. The theme of this solo exhibition, “Teonge -Nest,” is derived from the word for a nest acting as home for young birds in the Jeju Island dialect of South Korea, and means a place of shelter in which one can rest comfortably and without burden. PARK, Ji Eun expands upon the motif of “Nest” to invoke an emotional and psychological sanctuary for people of the modern era. Appearing as places one longs to return to and wishes to remain, as well as ideal and imagined spaces, PARK, Ji Eun’s “Teonge - Nest” landscapes offer a warm and comforting experience to viewers searching for their own place of return. The roofs that appear in PARK, Ji Eun’s works symbolize spaces on which memories and emotions come to rest. The artist explains that she has given form to the psychological idea that “a place where my heart feels at ease can become my home.” Emerging from this exploration of expression, Giwa, or traditional roof tiles, is an Oriental form constituting the roofs within her compositions and is a distinctive element through which the artist conveys a solid and secure space. PARK, Ji Eun’s compositions actively employ natural materials, including Ottchil technique and eggshells. The physical properties of eggshells both connect to the ‘nest’ motif through proximity and thematically, as a shell that protects life, while the houses that consistently appear in her works metaphorically convey protection and safety, beyond mere architecture. Art critic LEE, Ju Hee has described PARK, Ji Eun’s landscapes as "a solid landscape unique to the artist, combining our familiar reality represented by tiles with the scale of imaginary nature." He also notes that the artist's pieces are "works in which Eastern painting materials and the modern human sentiment of home and nest operate together." PARK, Ji Eun graduated from Department of Oriental Painting of Dongduk Women's University, has explored a way of working that combines her sensitivity with Eastern cultural sensibilities, primarily through ink and brush techniques. Since having encountered Ottchil technique in 2008, she has been developing an expanded creative language. She has held a total of 25 solo exhibitions to date, including at Nu- Art Hall in Wanju, Jeonbuk (2024, 2023), Picture Book Art Museum in Samnye (2022), and Sori Arts Center of Jeonbuk State (2020). She has received the Woojin Young Artist Prize and the Ghasong Art Award, and has been selected as an E-Land Cultural Foundation Artist. Her works are held in the collections of the Art Bank at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Jeonbuk Museum of Art, Buan County Office, POSCO, and Wanju Culture & Tourism Foundation. Currently, she works from studios in Wanju, Jeonbuk, and Seoul. In this exhibition, a total of 25 landscape works by PARK, Ji Eun will be presented.
